10 Ways to improve your skin

Hi everyone!

Sorry I don’t post as often as I used to, it kind of got hard to get motivation, but here I am with some more tips and tricks! This time, talking about improving your skin. Hope you enjoy.

1. Drink lots and lots of water

We all know water is essential for our bodies to hydrate and be healthy, and our skin loves and needs plenty of water. Dehydration of the skin can cause dry patches, wrinkles and texture. Drink plenty of water to keep it plumped and healthy!

2. Don’t touch your face!!

I know this sounds kind of stupid, but think for a second. We use our hands for everything, and as much as we try to keep them clean you can’t be washing your hands every five minutes, so don’t put the germs from your hands, on your face! If you do, say hello to your next break out!

3. Wash you face regularly.

This one I am guessing most of us do, as least once a day, which is in the morning. Besides that, you should do it before you go to bed. If you wear makeup on a daily basis, it’s not healthy to just take your make up of with cotton pad and some makeup remover. You should always wash your face with a cleanser, which leads us to number 3.

4. Find a skincare that suits your skin type.

We all have our concerns with our skin, weather it is oily skin, dry skin or even eczema. You should have a skin care that will fight and resolve those issues. For a basic skin care you should always have these products and use them in this order:
  1. Cleanser: Washing your face with a cleanser will get rid of all the bacteria and disgustingness that you built up in your face during the day.
  2. Toner: After cleansing the toner is supposed to bring you face to the right pH and that makes your face absorb everything else that comes next much better.
  3. Serum: this is not mandatory but most people use it to fight a specific concern. This, in a very simple way put, is a more concentrated version of the moisturizer in a much lighter formula which makes it much easier to sink into the skin.
  4. Moisturizer: this is just something that will lock everything in your face, making sure that everything is absorbed.
  5. Oils: Not for everyone, oils must be chosen according to your concern. Me for example, I use Cold Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil. It targets my dry patches and texture. This should be the last step of your skin care.

5. Never go to bed with your makeup on!

We all have those days where we go out at night and feel like getting home and going straight to bed and taking our makeup off feels like a huge task. But let me tell you that sleeping all night with your makeup on is just “skin suicide”. Our skin is an organ and needs to be taken care of. When we put makeup on we’re covering it and not letting it breathe. Our skin heals itself during the night and keeping our makeup on will make that difficult. Besides, it will start clogging pores, causing acne, and skin irritation. As for eye makeup, we don’t really have self-control during the night, and rubbing our eyes on the pillow or even with our hands, mascara and everything else can cause eye irritation.

6. Be aware of your makeup products expiration date.

I don’t know if you are aware of this but even though there is no actual date on the products, they all have an expiration date. For example, mascara has a 3 month expiration date. How surprising is that? 3 months? That’s nothing! A lot of people buy makeup products and use them until they finish it, even if that means using it out of date. I have to confess I don’t always follow this rule, I mean, I spent money on that and it kills me to throw it away, but safety first right? No point in saving it if you get an infection and spend the money on medication!

7. Let it breathe!

I know some people can’t leave the house with a fresh face of no makeup. Don’t be embarrassed of showing your naked face. Besides during the night, it’s always good to let your skin breathe, catch some air, some sun!

8. Sun protection is key!

On the days you feel like going out with a naked face, please use sunscreen! Our face has the most sensible skin, and you might not feel like the sun is doing anything, but trust me when I say, it is! The sun is one of the factors for wrinkles, fine lines and collagen breakdown which will cause your skin to age faster than it should so, always put sunscreen before going out!

9. Clean your makeup brushes regularly!

I recommend cleaning them once a week with a cleanser and once every 2 weeks you should deep clean them. These things are touching your face and the makeup products on a daily basis. You don’t want to build up the germs everywhere and then putting them on our face!

10. Don’t worry too much!

Stress causes a chemical response in your body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive. It can also make it harder for skin problems to heal, so take it easy, take a deep breath and try to think and convince yourself that everything will work out at the end.
And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed reading!

  1. Top!
Loved tip two. Recently I started to notice that I have a very bad habit of touching my face! I think it is one of the reasons my acne doesn’t go away!
Tip 8 everyone tells me that, specially beacause I have frackles lol, but can’t find one good sunscreen for my type of skin. Any recommendation for normal to oily skin? Sometimes they are to heavy for my skin…
Loved this post, alot! Keep going Leonor 😉

    1. Thank you Steph!! 😘😘
I know it can be hard to just not touch your face, I struggle with this one too!
As for the sunscreen try shiseido, they have a lot of options, and good ones. Also, if you wear makeup on a daily basis it just easier to go for a bb cream of foundation that already has sunscreen on it. Either that or a daily moisturizer the also contains sunscreen. 😉
      I hope I could help! 😘
